Jerylen's career in education began in 1994 after graduating from Alabama A & M University in Huntsville, Alabama. She served two years as a fifth grade teacher in Fulton County, Georgia. Then, after getting married, she relocated to Prince William County, Virginia where she taught for several more years. During her time with PWCS she earned a master's degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision from George Mason University. Jerylen spent four years serving as assistant principal at Dale City Elementary (Prince William County) until leaving in 2004 to launch Great Explorations. During a hiatus from the work of the foundation, she spent four years as a teacher at Immanuel Christian School in Springfield, Virginia. She now serves as an Assistant Principal with Alexandria City Public Schools. Jerylen believes Great Explorations gives children the inspiration to dream and the tools to purse those dreams until they are a reality.
This lady wears a lot of hats. The ones that bring her the most joy are wife and mom. Twenty-five years ago she married her college "big brother" and best friend Michael Daniels. She is also the self-proclaimed "momager" of her three children who keep her always on the move. Some of Jerylen's favorite ways to relax happen to be in her hometown of Aliceville, AL: hanging out with family, finding a quiet spot to read a book in her old bedroom, or driving her dad's tractor. A favorite quote: "Give a man a fish and he will have food for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will have food for a lifetime." -unknown |

Great Explorations does not promote or restrict participation to those who ascribe to a certain set of religious, social, or cultural beliefs. However, the essence of what we do is rooted in the Christian principles of love and developed character and in the acknowledgement of spirituality as an essential factor of being human.
